In a concerted effort to accelerate the green transition the EntreComp4Transition project partners, including the Spain Chamber of Commerce, Wirtschaftskammer Österreich, and Eurochambres, participated in the EU Green Week partner event “Green Skills for a Sustainable Future: Leveraging European Chambers’ Expertise in Reskilling and Upskilling” which took place on 7 June. The event brought together key stakeholders and experts to ignite the development of green skills across Europe.

Fuelling the discussions were crucial topics such as the pressing need for reskilling and upskilling, with a particular focus on the pivotal role of European chambers and other key actors in green transition effort. Alongside inspiring case studies, the event featured new tools, practices and research presented by CEDEFOP, DG GROW, OECD, and Unioncamere.  

During the event, the project partners unveiled a comprehensive market analysis conducted within the EntreComp4Transition framework. They underscored the critical importance of fostering partnerships and knowledge exchange among businesses and educational institutions. The analysis spotlighted significant skill gaps, such as the need for a green labour force, digital competences, expertise in renewable energies, and circular economy specialists. These gaps serve as guideposts for designing a learning path, which will facilitate the up-skilling and re-skilling and transmitting more labour market focused knowledge to VET and Higher Education students. It aims at facilitating the transition to a greener economy while meeting the ever-evolving demands of the labour market. 

As the panel discussion unfolded, it confirmed similar skill gaps findings, underscoring an imminent surge in demand for “green” skills among enterprises. Experts stressed the paramount importance of cross-sectoral collaboration and a coordinated approach in tackling the challenges and seizing the opportunities presented by the green transition. 

The EntreComp4Transition project partners expressed their commitment to further advancing the development of green skills. They eagerly intend to leverage the valuable insights gained from this event to inform their ongoing efforts. By empowering individuals and businesses with the competencies needed to thrive in the sustainable landscape, Europe is paving the way for a brighter future. With an adaptable, resilient, and passionate workforce, Europe could drive the green transition forward and create a truly sustainable society.
